Honeybee project is now awaiting approval on La Gonave

The honeybee project which will create local jobs and start honey production is now in the hands of officials.  The proposal will outline what the project is, and what it will do for the environment and economy.  The goal is to move the project forward and have the first hive on La Gonave in Jan of 2016. Keep your fingers crossed that this project moves forward as we feel it will be a major success for the people on the island.  It will produce food, help start small scale reforestation, and provide jobs for the people.  Also the project will be fully funded by donors, which will also pay for locals to be educated in beekeeping.  It is truly a win for the island of La Gonave. Go Gonave!

Let the rne (rebirth) begin

When you look at Haiti as a whole, there are so many challenges.   Often it seems very overwhelming when you see that everything is needed.  By everything, education, housing, clean water, sanitation, jobs, energy, security, etc.  Gonave has a unique chance to get this right with the correct leadership.  With the right leadership that isn't afraid to make bold change, and believes in selfless thoughts, Gonave can have a rebirth of sorts.  Many have promised Haiti a rne, or Rebirth after the earthquake.  Many places are still waiting years after it happened.  Much of the billions of dollars promised have yet to reach Haiti, and many NGO's or non-governmental agencies pocketed the money for operation costs.  Much of the money was lost due to corruption within Haiti itself.  Citizens have to be smarter and demand change.  This isn't to turn Gonave into an independent nation.  This isn't to rally against Haiti.  This IS t...

Stopping violence before it starts, and killing violence that exists

It's no secrete that Haiti has many different issues including violence.  Gonave is no different.  While the violence on Gonave doesn't compare to the amount and types of violence on the mainland, ending violence and stopping it before it begins is key. Some say education, stable home, and good role models are key to ending violence.  While this is true, it is up to the future leaders on Gonave to first reach out to parents.  Explain the importance of education, therefore parents are less likely to keep kids at home to help pay the bills.  Also leaders should explain how education is a key for success.  It isn't a promise that an educated individual will be perfect, but it helps to give a person a place in life. All of this points to one bigger thing...government.  While government can't raise our kids, having a good government is very important.  A government that cares about the progress of the people that inhabit their country.  A lov...
