Observation Grant

Observation Grant that we talked about in a previous blog for $1,500 plus $150 for the purchase of honeybees, has moved on the the final stage in the process of approval. The beecause.org has approved the first phase and the information that was provided.  We are now on to the next one and we are extremely happy.  This observation hive will set La Gonave apart from many areas in the Caribbean and even the United States.  How many schools, colleges, or universities have observation hives? We are committed to Haiti, and La Gonvae.  What started off as talk and hope has lead to the joining of Hurko, a relationship with a not-for-profit, and now an emerging economy on La Gonave.  Once the hive is put in place we will have photos.  Not only will you see the hive being assembled, installed, but also the honeybees being placed in. Go Gonave!

A Caribbean TV Channel is now on our blog.

This is just the beginning.  Remember me telling everyone about Over The Top programming.  Well we are now starting a small scale project.  You can now watch Cinestream TV, via Filmon TV which is a Barbados channel. Stay tuned as we build this blog and our future platforms. GO Gonave!

Dance team in Gonave Continued

A few months ago I mentioned that there is a need to start a dance team on Gonave.  The idea is to have people from Gonave who would create an entertainment economy.  Who knows the dance teams could be good enough to compete with other dance and ballet teams in America.  Not only should dance be studied, but also music, art, film, etc.  Gonave has a unique opportunity to stand out from the rest of the Caribbean.  This tiny island could easily be the entertainment hub of the region.  A small amount of funds could be raised to start the entertainment industry on Gonave, and then market it to the rest of the world.  Thoughts? Go Gonave!

Creating an iconic brand

Creating iconic brands that are based on the island of Gonave is very important.  Small business is the engine to any nation's economy.  With those small businesses, as they become more established, they develop into iconic brands. Gonave could easily develop retail and consumer good brands.  These brands could then be advertised all over the Caribbean, which would then push Gonave's influence in the business world.  Creating a brand is no simple task, but provides large rewards if that brand is successful. As Gonave gets more attention and focus, you can make a major difference.  You could possibly be the one that will create a business and launch a new brand for the world to enjoy. Go Gonave!

Mushroom and Lavender farms

Gonave can start building a strong farm presence as well as build a strong economy by producing high priced goods.  Oyster Mushrooms can fetch a very high price for a small amount of goods.  Lavender can be used in many different types of products, all bringing large profits. Oyster Mushrooms These mushrooms grow very fast, and can be cropped every week.  Just a small 200 sq ft area can produce 100 pounds per week.  Given that these mushrooms can fetch $6 to $15 per pound, oyster mushrooms can be a very viable product for Gonave given Gonave's small land size. Lavender These plants like land that is rugged, and after their first year, they can survive getting little moisture.  From fresh to dried bouquets, to sachets and pet products, lavender can also bring in large amounts of money as well as jobs.  Again a small area of 400 sq ft can make 300 bunches per year.  Given that lavender can fetch $6 per bunch, expect $1,800 per year on that small...

Island wide Wi-Fi? / Island lajè Wi-Fi?

When you think of Wi-Fi, you think of a Starbucks where you can order coffee and food, and surf the web.  Sometimes city trains and buses will have Wi-Fi and many hotels offer Wi-Fi for free.  Some cities like Seoul, South Korea, are giving leases to large telecom companies to build up free internet by creating a large Wi-Fi network. Gonave could be the first area in the Caribbean to institute a large Wi-Fi zone.  Why is this important when Gonavians need so many things?  Well for one more access to the world, gives Gonavians more access to ideas.  Increasing the technology of an area provides more jobs and innovation.  The idea would be to first build up a particular area of Gonave.  I have mentioned in previous blogs, creating a commercial district.  Then connecting that area so anyone in that zone would have access to free internet at any time of the day.  Having free high speed internet that can connect cellphones, laptops, tablets, ...

Gonavian Ginger Beer Part II (Gonavian jenjanm byè Pati II)

So some of the things I am coming up with for this Ginger Beer, which I mentioned would have an ABV of 8-9%, would include lemon and lime juice in it's makeup. Not only would it contain lemon and lime juice as well as the actual lemons and limes.  Of course you will not see the lemons or the limes when the beer is fully fermented, but the beer will lack hops.  Hops is usually a mainstay in beer and very essential.  Due to the make up of Ginger Beer, it will lack hops, but will still have a malt extract of some type, possibly a Pale DME. I know all of this may not mean much to you, but trust me, the flavor will be wonderful.  Also the beer will contain a large amount of honey.  So stay tuned to the Gonavian Ginger Beer, as I dive into making of this beer.  Who knows it could be one of the largest produced beers in the Caribbean. Go Gonave! ---------------- Se konsa, kèk nan bagay sa yo mwen vini ak pou sa a Ginger byè , ki mwen mansyone ...

Honey Farms

One of natures best gifts is honey.  Organic honey is becoming very popular, and with this demand, Gonave could benefit. Bee farmers produce large volumes of honey at a time, and these bee hives can be placed on a very small plot of land.  So a few farmers could produce enough honey to supply not only all of Gonave, but the entire Caribbean. Honey can even be stockpiled in warehouses to be used out over time.  Honey never spoils or goes bad.  So this is a product that can easily be a cash crop that produces high yields, low cost, and little time management. Go Gonave!
