The building of Kerosene stoves

I mentioned in previous posts about how La Gonave could use Alcohol and/or Kerosene stoves.  The idea is to prevent additional destruction of the trees on the island, and to find ways for people to cook food and boil water. I mentioned a campaign as well to get started.  The idea behind that was to fund a specific amount of stoves, and then make those stoves available to the public, with a set goal of the number of families to have kerosene stoves.  Eventually all islanders would have either alcohol or kerosene stoves.  Both types of stoves can easily be made. After doing some research, I found an organization that works in Haiti, but based in Canada.  They have a very small operation where they build these kerosene stoves.  Now the stoves are not wide spread, but they are built by locals.  I got in touch with that organization to inquire about purchasing the stoves, however it seems like they are willing to give me ideas on how these stoves are b...

Remember Hurko?

Image
The company that listed it will build a similar housing and retail structure on La Gonave, is still in the mix.  The above photo is an idea that Hurko gave me last year as to what they are considering building on La Gonave, but didn't give a timeline. Recently the company stated they will build the hives at La Gonave, or finance the building of the initial hives.  They are planning on the eventual training of building the hives to locals.  I have also talked to the company about my plants for the honeybee project and they feel that it makes great sense to have a small scale economy of beekeepers.  Beekeeping on an island is a good thing as it will keep the bees there on the island, so those that do leave the hive will not travel to the mainland.  It keeps potential disease that may hit the mainland from impacting the bees on La Gonave.  The company is still very interested in working with La Gonave and building up the economy. Potential plans for ...

New World Brown Ale

Image
I have a few blogs talking about beer that could be manufactured on Gonave, and be a part of the culture.  I mentioned Gonvian Ginger Beer, which is still in the works.  Secretly behind the scenes I have been working on a beer called the New World Brown Ale. Now the reason for this name is due to what the beer uses for hops.  It uses hops from the United Kingdom, as well as hops from the Pacific North West (America).  These hops come together in creating a lightly bitter, but malty and you can taste the hops. This beer has already been created and is in the secondary stages of fermenting.  This will also be a beer that I will bring to Gonave and it will be manufactured there.  I will be testing this beer soon to make sure it passes the test of flavor, mouth feel, head retention, etc.  This is a fine art!  This beer could go head to head with New Castle. Stay tuned to more as I work on the Ginger Beer. Go Gonave! ----------------------...

Transpark could be a solution for logistics on Gonave and Haiti

A multi-modal transpark could work very well on Gonave.  What is a transpark?  A transpark is an industrial park that connects different modes of transportation to ship goods.  Many times these transparks will have office buildings as well. How can Gonave benefit from this?  Well and ideal transpark would be about 500 acres that would connect the entire island with rail and via roadway.  Therefore non-transpark jobs can be disbursed throughout the island.  This benefits the whole island, not just one area.  The transpark would also transport goods via air, so an airport could be built on the border of the transpark.  In addition to the airport would be a seaport.  Again, goods can be brought in and shipped out.  A transpark allows companies to have tremendous flexibility when it comes to logistics.  When you look at an island that lacks key infrastructure, a transpark makes a lot of sense.  Initially the 500 acre...
