Let's Build Gonave, Haiti!

The company that listed it will build a similar housing and retail structure on La Gonave, is still in the mix.  The above photo is an idea that Hurko gave me last year as to what they are considering building on La Gonave, but didn't give a timeline. Recently the company stated they will build the hives at La Gonave, or finance the building of the initial hives.  They are planning on the eventual training of building the hives to locals.  I have also talked to the company about my plants for the honeybee project and they feel that it makes great sense to have a small scale economy of beekeepers.  Beekeeping on an island is a good thing as it will keep the bees there on the island, so those that do leave the hive will not travel to the mainland.  It keeps potential disease that may hit the mainland from impacting the bees on La Gonave.  The company is still very interested in working with La Gonave and building up the economy. Let's Build Gonave, Haiti is partnering with different not-for-profits to start the impetus for a economic engine in Haiti. The 5 year plans will span 5 years which are based on calendar years from 2015 to 2020.  The economic plan will focus on one industry that will make La Gonave self sufficient in that industry.  The plan's goal is to put most of the revenue from the sell of goods to put back into the 5 year plan.  A civic spending plan will then be created, where part of the industrial revenue will go into one civic project.  While there is a range of issues, more than likely the civic project will focus exclusively on education. More information on the first Focus City, (Focus Site) on Gonave.   I have been in constant communication with Hurko Co to know what the plans are for Gonave.   Most of the intial investment from Hurko will be basic infrastructure. As I mentioned in the last blog, the first areas of focus will be a two lane gravel road, and large 2 MW wind Turbines.   Hurko mentioned that due to the strong winds on the island, it made sense to take advantage of the wind currents.   Also along the two lane gravel road will be street lights based on LED technology.   So most of this project sounds very “Green” as it will use zero emission power technology, and powerful LED street lighting, which most American Cities don’t even use.   I got more information yesterday on the plans.   Along the route will be a 1 to 2 mile heavy rail track using standard gauge 4 ft  8   1 ⁄ 2  in ( 1,435 mm ) track.   It will be a single track lin...
