Let's Build Gonave, Haiti!

No doubt companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft make major impacts on their local, state, and Federal economies.  These companies hire and train specialist that command a strong economy which trickles down to other services and businesses in their areas. Haiti is behind the fence on many advancements including IT (information technology).  While there are tablet makers and wireless companies that are in the area as well as internet connections, the country is still not active online. In fact to get a domain that ends in ht which is for Haiti, it costs about $99 US, while you can get a .com, or eve a .kr (Korea) for less than $20 US.  This barrier to entry prevents the country from being online in one instance, and puts the country into obscurity.  While there are mild internet connects in the country, mainly due to wireless telephone companies and large internet towers, Haiti must improve it's IT infrastructure. Imagine the IT infrastructure on La Gonave....

Before I wrote about an Innovation Park could be what La Gonave needs to spur economic development.  A business park is also something that could also help spur economic development.  In fact, it could be possible to combine the two parks into one.  Imagine the La Gonave Innovation and Business Park.  This could be an opportunity to have both tech and non-tech companies to work together. I bring up the idea of a business park because we are planning to build a honey processing plant in the city of Anse-a-Galets.  While the plant is a couple of years away, honey will be processed on the island well before a true plant is built.  The small extraction center that we will open initially at the start of 2017 will help make the case to get financing for a much larger and faster extraction plant.  Couple this with the need of having warehouse space, and you get the point. I wanted to touch base on the video sharing site that will be based on La Gonave.  As mentioned this will not only connect Haiti into more of an IT world by having a software company based there, but will also bring the world to Haiti, and more specifically La Gonave. Our initial plan was to have a live streaming service where users could be anywhere in the world and stream from their phone.  Not only are they a few companies that currently are doing this, but the amount of investment to do this is tremendous.  Given that we won't have the ability to effective do this and compete, we decided to not build a live streaming platform.  We will still live stream from La Gonave using one of those other third party streaming companies.  This will allow us the ability to reach the entire planet and even notify member/subscribers of when we will go online.  We will have different channels on our video sharing platform and users can comment on, but they will not b...
