Let's Build Gonave, Haiti!

I mentioned that several crops can be grown on La Gonave, and that the focus was a few specific crops.  I failed to mention tea.  While coffee and tea grow in similar environments, there are a few areas on La Gonave where both can have a good chance of growing. Unlike coffee which takes about two years from when it is first planted to produce a crop, tea takes much less time.  It could be possible that La Gonave could grow both crops and sell them overseas. Now is the time to be patient and stay hopeful. Go Gonave!

One of the folks here is working on a quicker solution that would require minor investment, but would have a strong future on Gonave.  I just wrote a blog today talking about using local coffee to supply Coffee Cubes LTD.  We are also looking to see if Starbucks would be interested in coffee that is from Gonave.  Our offices are based out of Seattle, which is where Starbucks is located.  So getting connections would be easier than say if we were in another part of the country. The idea would be to grow a specific coffee bean, that would then be imported to America, and then onto Starbucks.  Now this will require some homework on our part due to Starbucks having a large volume of blends, and due to Starbucks high standards.  This is still in the early stages, but could prove to be a major accomplishment if this gains traction.  Starbucks isn't the only company we are looking at.  Even Tully's will be considered as well.  Guess what, they ar...

In a previous blog I wrote about a company that wanted to bring a new business concept to Gonave Island.  The company would rely mostly on tourist, but also offer coffee to locals as well.  Coffee Cubes Limited would use shipping containers or build small stations that would allow the coffee to be delivered to customers. Just yesterday I spoke with the company again.  They still have an interest in the project.  I also asked where they get their coffee beans from.  Most of their beans are imported from South America.  I mentioned to them that Gonave currently has coffee operations that exist due to World Vision.  Not only were they excited of this news, but stated that this would potentially be an avenue that they would use to purchase coffee locally. There is more to come on this, but I wanted to get as much information out there as possible.  Be sure to recommend your friends and family to this site! Go Gonave!

I first want to say, I appreciate all the interest in Gonave, and our team at Let's Build Gonave, Haiti, have put on a strong force to show the world Gonave.  While we haven't put a large amount of resources to Gonave yet, we have been doing a large amount of behind the scenes work, and also working with Haitian officials before anything can take place.
