Shipping Container Apartments reloaded.

Image
Yes I talk a lot about shipping containers being used on Gonave.  Well the fact is, these containers are cheap to buy, Goave is surrounded by water, so these containers can be shipped in, they are durable against earthquakes and strong wind, they are fast to build, and the list goes on. With that said, I will post and re-post some pictures on the internet of shipping container apartment buildings that would make sense for Gonave.  ****I do not own these pictures and if rightful owners want them removed, please let me know.**** All of the above are made from shipping containers.  While some are obvious, others like the third picture may not be.  These containers make perfect sense and can help increase population density on a island of small size.  Now looking at these buildings you may think that they don't provide enough options, but you are wrong.   I will show you how the inside of these apartments can look.  Now again a spec...

Weather Stations on Gonave specific to zones.

As you know I wrote about having Gonave split into different zones.  Not only would it help with identifying specific locations on the island, but it also will help with development.  If a particular area is being developed, we can list the zone and people will know where we are speaking of. I also wrote about weather stations on the island.  These stations are a must and are very important.  Each station would cost around $5 - $8,000 US per station.  These stations would be placed all around the island, so that weather can be pulled from different areas of the island.  After doing a large amount of research on this, many of the stations run on Solar Power.  This is key as it will work well on Gonave due to the lack of infrastructure.  Also these stations would have backup power generators as well.  Given the small amount of power these units will use, solar makes the best sense.  Due to its durability and versatility, shipping contai...

Weather Stations on Gonave

One of the hardest hit areas during Hurricane season would be the Caribbean.  Haiti gets rocked by hurricanes and other weather events every year.  Sometimes these events are very deadly.  One issue is the lack of awareness of impending danger.  Another is no plan for the populace when these weather events happen. Gonave has so many benefits under all of the poverty and lack of development.  The small population, and the lack of development is actually a good thing in some aspects.  With a smaller population, you can protect people better, and get the message out faster.  When you have millions of people who you have to evacuate, or warn, the logistics can be a nightmare.  Even when these people are displaced, you have to find a place for them to live.  One reason that shipping containers will be a good thing for Gonave is that they can handle the tough environment that Gonave will throw at them.  Earthquakes, hurricanes, strong rain ...

Shipping container computer labs and the $100,000 computer plan.

Image
http://inhabitat.com/launchpad-shipping-container-computer-labs-let-south-african-students-communicate-with-mentors/ The above link talks about how LauchPad setup computer labs equipped with solar panels in South Africa as computer labs for students.  As you know I and my team are always on the phone, scouring the internet, and researching ideas.  This idea is a great way to help connect Gonave to the world. It will take a few different programs to get this started.  First the plan. Plan Create some 50 different computer labs throughout the island of Gonave.  Which will use shipping containers as the computer lab.  Each lab will contain two shipping containers connected to have a total of 20 different computer stations (10 per container).  The labs will be powered by solar panels on the top of each building.  These labs will either use Netbooks, full size desktop computers, laptops, or Tablet PC's.  With over 50 computer labs with 20 di...

Could Gonave be a land of "Container Homes"

Image
I mentioned that shipping containers can be used for different uses.  From homes to storefronts, to schools, and office buildings. Shipping containers are important for many reasons, but a few major reasons are they can survive hard winds, which Gonave is prone to high winds and annual hurricanes.  The containers can survive fire better than conventional homes.  The cost of modifying a container is cheap, and can be done very quickly.  The cost of purchasing a container is pretty affordable vs the cost of buying wood and the labor associated with construction.  The amount of time needed to setup the containers can be done very quickly.  Setting up 50 different container homes can be done in a matter of weeks, versus several months to a year if constructing conventional homes. Another major reason is less environmental impact.  Gonave doesn't have to deal with a large amount of construction by product, and these shipping containers don't have to en...
