Let's Build Gonave, Haiti!

No doubt companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft make major impacts on their local, state, and Federal economies.  These companies hire and train specialist that command a strong economy which trickles down to other services and businesses in their areas. Haiti is behind the fence on many advancements including IT (information technology).  While there are tablet makers and wireless companies that are in the area as well as internet connections, the country is still not active online. In fact to get a domain that ends in ht which is for Haiti, it costs about $99 US, while you can get a .com, or eve a .kr (Korea) for less than $20 US.  This barrier to entry prevents the country from being online in one instance, and puts the country into obscurity.  While there are mild internet connects in the country, mainly due to wireless telephone companies and large internet towers, Haiti must improve it's IT infrastructure. Imagine the IT infrastructure on La Gonave....

One of the things that I find very interesting is that the country of Haiti doesn't have a lot of irrigation systems.  When you look at the current drought situation, the nation should invest in low cost methods of moving water from large lakes to the countryside. While this one is paved in concrete, this isn't something that has to be done as many are built right into the land.  These channels literally allow for water to be regulated so that it can go to farms in need. When we look at places like La Gonave it isn't as easy.  There are no large lakes that are in the countryside, or anywhere on the island.  So while an irrigation system would still work, it would need to be built around reserve water wells.  Wells that would not have public access could be built so that water is then forced out to specific farms.  These farms would have to meet a minimum size and raise crops that the island is highly dependent on, such as rice. The minibus and bikeway system will be a move forward for La Gonave.  To my understanding there is no minibus system in all of Hispaniola (Haiti and Dominican Republic).  I am not aware of any bikeway system in all of the Caribbean.  So this system will be very rare, and unique in the world. Couple this with the fact that even in the United States, while there are many different bike paths that cities get involved in, rarely do those paths extend out into the countryside, with the exception of states like Oregon.  Oregon has many bike paths and trails that show the world the beauty of the wilderness. La Gonave, if built, would have a bikeway system that would rival many places in the world, and duplicating an existing system in S. Korea could even make the bikeway very advanced.  Adding solar panels above the bikeway will serve many purposes.  One it could generate enough power to light the bikeway at night, but also provide power to the many villages ...

I talked a bit about mini bus transit in previous posts.  This type of transit is key to moving people on the island.  I also mentioned that bike paths (bikeways) are also important as they are faster, and cheaper to build than the roads that mini buses and vehicles will use. Dual Transit Connecting the mini bus line with bikeways is important as it will connecting different types of transit together.  Keep in mind that these bikeways will also have benches, restrooms along the route, bike stations, bike repair shops, vendors, and will connect to minibus transit stops.   This bike lane shows a bike crossing with another mode of transit.  The signage shows pedestrian crossing.  This lane allows for bi-directional bike direction, connection to bus line, and even a walking path.  This is something that could implemented on La Gonave with the minibus system.  Bike Stations   This bike station allows for indoor bike storage as we...

Everything posted on this blog is similar to what South Korea did to become a powerful nation in a short time.  Now the South Koreans are taking their model of success to the world, and even has attracted the attention of President Barack Obama.

Something that has caught my interest are dance groups from Korea to Kansas.  While I know Haiti has a very rich history in dance, I thought it would be great to personally finance dance groups on the island of Gonave. I think originally I will have them come up with their own routines, that are not just based on traditional Haitian dance, but a blend of K-pop moves, hip-hop, meringue, etc.  I want these groups to have a minimum of three dancers to as many as twelve.  Possibly having at least 10 different groups that can easily be identified from each other.  Also each group wouldn't have any correlation with the other. I think creating a style that is all Gonave is great.  Initially all of the videos will be on YouTube.  Who knows, maybe local artists can sing and bring these dance groups on.  Possibly have events on Gonave where these dance groups compete against each other.  So far it is just a thought, and something that I can financially...
