Start of a Video Sharing Website that will focus on Haiti. Part 1.

I have been putting together the pieces for a video sharing website that will have a strong focus on Haiti.  Similar to YouTube in the US, and similar to Afreeca TV in S. Korea, this would be a video sharing website, but wouldn't offer streaming services. The hope is to have a few corporate channels where viewers can go and watch those specific channels.  In addition regular viewers will be able to videos as well.  Individual users will be able to view, upload, and share their own videos. The site would require a free membership, and users would have their own personal page where they can upload a picture of themselves, it will have all of their recent activity, and they can link their account to Facebook, so they can share videos on Facebook as well as the video sharing site.  I am still in the early stages of this, and will be aiming to get some Haitian advertisers who will add revenue to the site.  The goal is to eventually setup the site and have it hea...

Day 3 Bidens Pilosa Update

Image
Day three of the Bidens Pilosa.  So when we replanted the seeds of the Bidens Pilosa, we didn't expect them to germinate so quickly.  So I will do more updates on this plant due to how quickly they grow.  As mentioned we added more seeds and slightly covered them on March 16th.  Below is a picture of what those seeds have done. Now keep in mind this is only day 3 as there was no activity before.  The fact that this plant can sprout in less than a week will make it the perfect plant to start with some ground cover in areas of La Gonave that has no vegetation. Also future plans of constructing roads will need plants like this that can be planted along the roadway and ditches.  These plants will pull out any pollution that is in the soil.  As a result the runoff water is cleaner as it enters waterways.  Due to the plant absorbing pollution, any plants that are along the roadway should not be eaten.  The Bidens, while very healthy to eat ...

Bidens Pilosa has germinated

The Bidens Pilosa has started germinating in soil.  We had to put the seeds indoors and in a room that is set for temperatures of 70 - 80 degrees.  With us adding more seeds, and a very thin layer of dirt over the seeds, it took the seeds only two days to show results. This is a major step in our research of not only reforestation, but also proving plants that have many benefits to people as well as pollinating birds, animals, and insects.  The plants will help with our later farm projects as well.  These plants will serve as seeding plants only.  Meaning we will harvest these plants and get the seeds to expand our project in Haiti.  The seeds will be in their raw form to be planted, and some will be turned into paper that can be planted We will post the progress of the Bidens Pilosa on our Gonave TV channel on YouTube once the plant has reached its full size. Go Gonave!

Creating dance groups on Gonave / Kreye gwoup dans sou Gonave

Something that has caught my interest are dance groups from Korea to Kansas.  While I know Haiti has a very rich history in dance, I thought it would be great to personally finance dance groups on the island of Gonave. I think originally I will have them come up with their own routines, that are not just based on traditional Haitian dance, but a blend of K-pop moves, hip-hop, meringue, etc.  I want these groups to have a minimum of three dancers to as many as twelve.  Possibly having at least 10 different groups that can easily be identified from each other.  Also each group wouldn't have any correlation with the other. I think creating a style that is all Gonave is great.  Initially all of the videos will be on YouTube.  Who knows, maybe local artists can sing and bring these dance groups on.  Possibly have events on Gonave where these dance groups compete against each other.  So far it is just a thought, and something that I can financially...

First Bus Made In Haiti By Jean-Paul Coutard (Video in Kreyol)

Image
A businessman in Nigeria created a car company, and now it seems that a Haitian businessman has done the same.  This businessman needs major support to keep this project going and expanding.  This is the type of development that would work well on Gonave!

Our YouTube Channel

Let's Build Haiti has a YouTube channel called Gonave TV.  Videos have not yet been uploaded, but we will be posting some soon.  The channel will explain the role of our soon to be nonprofit, activities, and news. Stay Tuned! Go Gonave!

The Cost of Corruption - Jamaica's Barrier to Prosperity

Image
Jamaica once was the most productive new nation in the Caribbean.  This started with large loans from the World Bank to build schools, however money didn't go towards this.  So now many Jamaican's are debating if Independence is a good thing. See Video

A new company could locate to Gonave

A soap manufacturer had contacted me about potentially locating on Gonave.  The company provides soap to different retail businesses in Canada and the US.  While no firm commitment was actually made, the company, which for now the name will be excluded, mentioned that Gonave could make sense.  The lack of power, water, and freight options are a problem.  These are all things I mentioned in many of the blogs I placed before. What makes Gonave so important is that there is a large pool of workers to run the machines that is needed to make the soap.  Also it is cheaper to employ people on Gonave vs people in Florida.  Makes complete sense to me, but again Gonave and people that live on the island must start to focus on how to make these things happen.  I have outlined a few things, but it will take a village (Gonave), to make this happen. I will have a YouTube channel coming soon, so stay tuned! Go Gonave!

Large Scale Aquaphonics

Image
Large Scale Aquaphonics could work for Gonave due to having fish farms along with vegetable grow beds.  Below is a YouTube Video that talks about how someone did a small scale DIY system. This is something that can easily be built on several acres, even if you have to build several medium sized greenhouses.  The fish farm could have Tilapia, and possibly shrimp.   Given the small amount of space needed to grow a large amount of food, this could be a very attractive option for Gonave.
