Gonave Department of Education of GDOE

As I mentioned a few times education is key.  One way to get Gonave rolling is by having adequate well funded schools for children as well as adults.  While building of schools cost a large sum, this can solved using wooden structures or even using shipping containers.  Adults could benefit from community colleges that will provide language learning courses, math, sciences, and even job training.  This is very important in luring international companies to the island. Children will benefit from well balanced schools that are based on school structures that work in different parts of the world such as Japan, S. Korea, and even England. Creating a Department of Education can ensure the citizens of Gonave will have a leg up on others in the region.  Establishing a good public school system is key to making sure that the proper checks and balances are done.  Schools will be built where they are needed, books are modern and useful, strong education requir...

Housing on Gonave / Lojman sou Gonave

Image
Housing on Gonave is something that is very important.  Initially housing will either be small houses for those who live further away from Anse-a-Galets.  While closer to the new central business district, housing high rises are important.  These structures, unlike rural housing, will be made of concrete and multiple stories. The above image would be perfect for Gonave.  This photo represents mostly housing, with some office mixed in.  This could be Gonave's new central business district.  In fact the actual landscape with the freeways, parks, and some office buildings would fit to house most in Anse-a-Galets, and any new residents that may come to live on Gonave.  The thousands of housing units you see, are much more affordable due to not needing as much utility infrastructure.  Everything in very compact.  Even a mall could be built inside of this huge housing complex along with future light rail lines.  This large complex would b...

Getting large scale resorts to Gonave / Lè w gwo echèl resorts Gonave

If the idea of turning Gonave into a Special Administrative Region happens, then it is likely that the Bureau of Land Management would be created.  The role of that agency is to make sure that land is developed properly and environmentally correct.  Getting a large scale resort to Gonave would be key to building the economy. Sandals Resorts would be a good company to bring to Gonave.  Not only is the company based in nearby Jamaica, but it could easily purchase land at a discount to build their luxury resort.  It could be possible that the company would have to own the property for a specific number of years.  Gonave could easily sell 30 acres of land to a company like Sandals.  This money then would be used to build up the infrastructure near and around the resort.  As more taxes come in from the resort, that tax money would be put into the large Gonavian economy. Putting at a minimum of 3 resorts on the island would not be a major impact to the ...

Port Authority of Gonave/ Otorite Port of Gonave

Image
I mentioned in a very early post about one of the first offices created should be the Bureau of Land Management.  In that blog I mentioned how this would be very important to developing the island of Gonave and all 65,000 acres.  This Bureau would regulate not only natural resources on the island, but also urban planning. A part of the Bureau of Land Management would be a Port Authority, which would be designed to manage a zoned area that deals with the ports of Gonave.  This authority would help in land development but on a much smaller scale, it also would help in transit, and micro economics.  For example, to have a ferry go from Haiti to Gonave, the Gonave Port Authority could create a Gonave Island Ferry.  This would connect passengers and citizens from both locations as well as tourist. Small or micro economics would be to develop a fishing terminal, where ocean going fishing vessels would return the catch of the day, or month to a terminal that would...

Employment goals on Gonave

Employment goals on Gonave I think that to get the economy of Gonave stated there needs to be a few crucial items.  I have mentioned them before and that is a source of power, and getting the proper water sanitation that will allow for large scale businesses. Once that is accomplished I think that industry can be lured to the island using specific programs that work in other island areas.  Given the close location to the US, Gonave stands a strong chance of leading the Caribbean in economic growth.  These industries should be built and lured in phases. Phase 1 Bring in a 75 to 100 person call center. Create a farm program where you create over 50 different farms from fish farms to vegetable farms, along with cattle, chicken, and hog farms.  Employment of 100 jobs minimum. Bring in a textile company with a minimum of 250 jobs. Build a tourist resort and hotel which would bring about 150 to 200 jobs. Create a cannery which will have a minimum of 50 jobs. ...
