The need for a business park could be perfect for the honey processing plant.

Before I wrote about an Innovation Park could be what La Gonave needs to spur economic development.  A business park is also something that could also help spur economic development.  In fact, it could be possible to combine the two parks into one.  Imagine the La Gonave Innovation and Business Park.  This could be an opportunity to have both tech and non-tech companies to work together.

I bring up the idea of a business park because we are planning to build a honey processing plant in the city of Anse-a-Galets.  While the plant is a couple of years away, honey will be processed on the island well before a true plant is built.  The small extraction center that we will open initially at the start of 2017 will help make the case to get financing for a much larger and faster extraction plant.  Couple this with the need of having warehouse space, and you get the point.

A business/innovation park is needed as a place where roads are built, dedicated power is available, and water access is available.

Our pitch to the city of Anse-a-Galets would be to set aside a 10-15 acre site where this small light industrial park would be built.  I know of at least two companies already interested in locating on La Gonave, and having a dedicated area with modern infrastructure is important.  Also Hurko is looking at developing products that would be exported.  I am personally heading to Haiti in Feb to talk to a technology firm about the possibly of locating to La Gonave.  By advocating and touting this business innovation park, we can possibly get a strong tech firm to open a small facility on La Gonave.

It all starts with honey as I have mentioned before.  Honey is the key to this whole project and the economy of La Gonave.  By having a strong industry that is based around honey, and they having other supporting industries that work with the wax, propolis, and even the honey, you start to see greater rewards.

I know currently of a new startup that is interested in the honey we will be producing on the island.  Now is the time for La Gonave to shine, and building such a business innovation park is the best way to go.

Go Business Innovation Park.  Go Gonave!
