Tourism lodging ideas
Beach side cabins like these could be easily done on La Gonave to promote tourism.
This open bay window would be perfect to face out toward the beach.
Retail shops could also be located nearby which would serve both tourists and locals.
The idea of building large hotel buildings on La Gonave is not one that can be done easily. Yes there are actual hotels on the island, however building a highrise structure on La Gonave has it's own logistical problems.
Many travelers like the idea of having their own cottage on the beach. The idea of having your own "mini house" is something that tourist usually seek when they go camping. So having these type of small cottages is like a home away from home.
These structures are seen all over Key West, FL. Like Haiti, the Florida Keys are battered by hurricanes as well. We can even design these structures to be movable as well and loaded on the back of wheeled trailers.
The idea of having these private rooms, while great in many aspects, these facilities will not have indoor plumbing. Usually these rooms are big enough for a bed and small makeup area. No sink, no toilet, and no fridge. So a bathroom stall near these cottages would have to be constructed. Even putting solar panels on the roof top of each unit would be a viable way of supplying each unit with power. These small cottages add a charm to the island, and could be locally built. Imagine the unique colors of each building, reminding travelers that they have reached a tropical paradise.
Then the other side of this is jobs. Hostess, house keepers, cooks, construction workers, etc are all needed. On top of that creating a small retail area is a way for locals to sell their goods and services. Again this can be done without the expense and lengthy construction of steel and concrete. Couple this with connecting the area to the bikeway system and mini bus line. You then have a viable tourist destination where tourist can see the island, and experience the charm.
