Focus City, industrial park, and Surtab.

With the Focus City concept I had talked about how that would work, the players involved, and how it will impact La Gonave.

I mentioned that manufacturing is important and even a small manufacturer would be needed in the Focus City to help echo a strong movement of investment on La Gonave.  This is why it is important for the mayor of Anse-a-Galets to help create and establish an industrial park.

Now not just your typical industrial park, but one that is innovative.  My proposal is a small technology park of around 10 acres.  One acre would be set aside for a business incubator building, which would help create new technology ideas which could then build the next new company.  A couple of speculative buildings would be built to help ease the process for new firms to locate into the park.  Our idea would be a 10,000 sq. ft and a 15,000 sq. ft speculative buildings.
Also just outside of the park would be a biomass/fuel power plant.  While the power plant would run some of the buildings on site, it is mainly for research as to what would be the best type of biomass that would work for the system and that is easily grown on La Gonave.  I was recently in talks with All Power Labs on their Pallet Power System which could easily power several homes and costs under $60,000 US.  I could see a system such as this being at the park. This industrial technology park which I see it as being called the Innovation Park, with a symbol similar to what is shown below.

Surtab

Haitian tablet maker Surtab would be the perfect first business in the Innovation Park.  While the company does have a factory in Port-au-Prince, they have grown tremendously in the last couple of years since they launched.  A tablet maker is exactly what is needed on La Gonave, and would easily fit in one of the spec. buildings I mentioned above.  The company could possibly provide their own reliable power as well.  I have a meeting with Surtab to talk more about the company and La Gonave as well as the work we are doing on the island.

So this has some legs!  I see a Focus City, which is an area where there is modern housing, small retail, and a innovation park.  This city would use power from solar, wind, and biomass.  Couple this with beautiful parks, and great landscaping and La Gonave turns the page and becomes the envy of the Caribbean.

We will keep pressing on!

Go Gonave!
