More on Hurko's development plan for Gonave. /Plis sou plan devlopman Hurko a pou Gonave.



More information on the first Focus City, (Focus Site) on Gonave.  I have been in constant communication with Hurko Co to know what the plans are for Gonave.  Most of the intial investment from Hurko will be basic infrastructure.

As I mentioned in the last blog, the first areas of focus will be a two lane gravel road, and large 2 MW wind Turbines.  Hurko mentioned that due to the strong winds on the island, it made sense to take advantage of the wind currents.  Also along the two lane gravel road will be street lights based on LED technology.  So most of this project sounds very “Green” as it will use zero emission power technology, and powerful LED street lighting, which most American Cities don’t even use. 

I got more information yesterday on the plans.  Along the route will be a 1 to 2 mile heavy rail track using standard gauge 4 ft 8 1⁄2 in (1,435 mm) track.  It will be a single track line, only double track when near a rail station.  There will be one rail stop, and one rail station.  Details on the rail station was limited, and the company only mentioned that it would have a retail component to it.

The overall goal is to build a 6 mile track, of which this 1 to 2 mile line would be part of it.  The Focus City (site) will be along the eastern tip of the island initially.  Hurko Co. mentioned that there are three sites where such a focus city will be.  So this will put either Trois A L’eau or Petite Anse in the cross hairs of Hurko’s development.  While the development will not be exactly in either place, the Focus City development will be at least 1 to 2 miles from either area.

The initial development will have a brewery and contain some 6 different honey farms, 4-5 apple farms, and a 4-5 pinto bean farms.  Some 50 homes or apartments will be constructed.  A 100 room hotel resort would also be constructed.  Future developments will be to have a passenger, cargo, and vehicle port in the future. 

If all holds true, this will be a major development for Haiti, and Gonave.  This would be development that gives Gonave a sense of purpose, creating jobs, and being ahead of many areas in the region and world.  There is currently no timeline for when these projects will get started according to Hurko Co.

Flag of Gonave?

I created the image below.  I will explain why I choose the colors I choose. So three basic color were chosen to represent the future island nation of Gonave, which are yellow, sky blue, and green. I did research on flags, and why colors should be chosen, what colors shouldn't be put on a flag, the meaning of colors, how not to over complicate a flag, and make sure that a made can easily be remember by school age kids. So here it is, and I will explain the colors. First off, the green portion of the flag represents the green lush vegetation of the island.  It also means a land rich with fertile soil which provides the energy of it's people. Carnival Cruise to build port in Haiti/Carnival Cruise yo bati pò an Ayiti

I remember early on when writing this blog, I stated that Gonave should have a cruise company build a port in Gonave, and it would be a major boost to Gonave's economy.  I was told by a local group who wants to turn Gonave into its own country, that I was incorrect.  They said cruise companies don't build ports and that the local municipality has to do that.  Of course that is incorrect!   I knew this because once taking a cruise myself Carnival mentioned they built a port in Cuba and are waiting for the US to overturn somethings so that cruises from America to Cuba can happen.  So again Gonave, be sure you know who you are listening to, and what their goals are.  Here at Let's Build Gonave Haiti, we have a core group that does research before we speak.
