Airline for Gonave

I wrote a blog on this topic several times.  I even mentioned how initially an airline could be a seaplane, due to the expense of building an actual runway.  While Gonave does have a dirt runway, it isn't always reliable due to it's size, condition, and the fact that it is made from dirt.

A newer runway could be constructed that would allow very small planes to connect to Port-au-Prince.  Cessna Caravans would prove vital for Gonave success.  First off these planes are very affordable, with a price often around $1 million US.  Moreover, these planes are used by FedEx in smaller cities to fly packages in and out.  So not only is the aircraft affordable, it can also be used as a cargo plane.  Moreover, airlines have used the aircraft for passenger service.  New Mexico Airlines use these planes to fly passengers in state.

Given the small amount of runway needed, cost, versatility, and reliability, a Cessna Caravan makes perfect sense. (see image below)
The downside is that these aircraft only have one propeller which can make some passengers uneasy.  Also the aircraft can only hold a maximum of 8-10 passengers at a time.  So if there are tourist arriving from France, and you have a large volume of people heading to Gonave, several flights would be needed just to move those few amounts of people at a time.

Below is a video of how smooth a caravan is when it lands and takes off on a grass runway.  So technically the craft could be used on Gonave now, and it also does well landing and taking off on water.

So an airline for Gonave can and will happen given what is currently available.  Having 3 to 4 of these aircraft to regularly will make connecting to Haiti easier than ever before.

La Gonave has an opportunity to do it right the first time.  Meaning that if the right people get involved and their goal is to help the Haitians to help themselves, then La Gonave could serve as the template for Haiti. Flag of Gonave?

I created the image below.  I will explain why I choose the colors I choose. So three basic color were chosen to represent the future island nation of Gonave, which are yellow, sky blue, and green. I did research on flags, and why colors should be chosen, what colors shouldn't be put on a flag, the meaning of colors, how not to over complicate a flag, and make sure that a made can easily be remember by school age kids. So here it is, and I will explain the colors. First off, the green portion of the flag represents the green lush vegetation of the island.  It also means a land rich with fertile soil which provides the energy of it's people. Carnival Cruise to build port in Haiti/Carnival Cruise yo bati pò an Ayiti

I remember early on when writing this blog, I stated that Gonave should have a cruise company build a port in Gonave, and it would be a major boost to Gonave's economy.  I was told by a local group who wants to turn Gonave into its own country, that I was incorrect.  They said cruise companies don't build ports and that the local municipality has to do that.  Of course that is incorrect!   I knew this because once taking a cruise myself Carnival mentioned they built a port in Cuba and are waiting for the US to overturn somethings so that cruises from America to Cuba can happen.  So again Gonave, be sure you know who you are listening to, and what their goals are.  Here at Let's Build Gonave Haiti, we have a core group that does research before we speak.
