Providing a lower cost solution for water on Gonave

One of the critical issues facing Gonave and Haiti is water.  While there has been many non-profit and group organizations that are building wells, I have mentioned before that this isn't enough.  It does provide water for the residents, which is very important, but it doesn't build the economy of the island.

The island does have a rainy season (monsoon) like many other places on Earth.  Many times the water that the island gets will either evaporate, seep into the soil, or drain out to sea.  Most of it doesn't reach the citizen of La Gonave.

To kill two birds with one stone, and to implement the water storage plan I have previously mentioned, homes on Gonave can retail the water run off.  By saying killing two birds with one stone, first better housing needs to be implemented on Gonave.  While this seems daunting, it really is very affordable and doable.  The roofs of the houses will automatically collect rain water.  We can then build a water retention system, again something that is very cheap, that will hold the water.  Then water trucks can collect this water run off, and take it to the water treatment plant.  I will talk more about how such a water treatment plant would look, but basically all of this is low cost.

So better housing, will provide more water for the residents of Gonave.  I do agree that a large scale system can be implemented.  Some water treatment plant systems can be very low cost ($ 4 million US dollars), that will treat water that runs off of the roofs of houses and buildings.  I think even a water reservoir could be constructed that could aid in supplying the island with water.  This water is then put in larger water storage tanks (http://letsbuildhaiti.blogspot.com/2013/10/water-is-first-priority.html) and then trucks can supply homes with water.  This beats the cost of building and maintaining expensive water supply lines that comes from a central location and pipes that are ran underground and under streets.

Work smarter, not harder!
