Power Gonave

As I mentioned a few different things about Gonave, you may wonder how to create power on the island.

One of the easier and fastest ways are Solar and Wind.  While you don't get nearly as much power in a small package as oil and coal plants, and you pay usually a handsome price for solar and wind, the end result is better.

Gonave has large amounts of sun, which will make a solar farm very reasonable.  Gonave also is aloong the Trade Winds which makes wind power reliable.

There are major cost involved to initially startup either avenue of solar or wind.

Solar

A solar farm such as the above could easily be adapted to Gonave.  A couple of million dollars would build a decent sized solar farm that can provide power to smaller communities on the island.  I think the island should also adopt strict power reduction methods.  This means lights in homes, streetscapes, buildings, etc all use LED technology and energy efficient light bulbs.  In addition high energy efficient appliances should also be adopted.

Wind

Small scale wind power can be implemented on homes throughout the island of Gonave.  While something like above isn't enough for a typical home to not rely on a national power grid, it does ease the burden on the power grid.  This is a very practical and economic way for Gonave to initially deal with power issues.

Above is a clip of a Large Wind Farm that could be used to help supply the power grid of Gonave.  It can take up large chunks of land, so one idea would also be to integrate wind farms in the ocean, off the coast of Gonave. (see below)  Understand that these types of installations are very expensive and will be something well in the future of the islands development and would required foreign investment.

The point is Gonave can be energy efficient, and I think that given the potential amounts of oil under and near the island, it could start selling this oil to nations such as the United States and China, in exchange for power plants, wind, and solar farms.  Again Gonave has an abundance of wind and sun, so this is a very attractive power solution.  Couple this with electric automobiles, the island would rarely have to important fuel.
