Turning Gonave into a Free Trade Zone/Export Trade Zone.

Turning Gonave into a Free Trade Zone To move the economy of Gonave as one single unit is to make Gonave a Free Trade Zone, which is the same as an Export Trade Zone, will bring in many different companies to the island.  Having a FTZ is nothing new, and it builds an economy.  Instead of having just a few zones which are usually around seaports, international airports, or on international borders, I propose turning the entire island of Gonave into a FTZ. The entire island of Mauritius in Africa is also a FTZ.  This has boosted this tiny island of only 787 square miles of having a GDP of $10.49 billion as of 2012, according to the World Bank.  The much larger Madagascar in Africa, which is at 226,597 square miles, which the entire isn't isn't a FTZ has a GDP of $9.975 billion as of 2012 according to the World Bank.  So not only does Madagascar have much more land, and over 20 million people compared to Mauritius which has just over 1 million people, Mauritius has a much s

Design of a Web Page

I have been asked what are my thoughts on building a webpage. While I like blogger, a web site is much more professional. I created one just for fun, with my image of the Gonave flag at http://gonavegovernment.webs.com /.  While this page is far from done, it only too me about 30 min for a basic design.  Obviously money is a problem so for now it will be just a mock up of an idea.

Beauty

Bureau of Land Management - Gonave

Bureau of Land Management - Gonave The first government office Gonave should create is the Bureau of Land Management.   This is very important as it will have regulations of what can and can’t be built, and guidelines setup for preserving nature. BLM Gonave will assume the land rights of the entire island of Gonave, which is about 286.9 sq. miles or   65,000 acres.   Individuals, who currently have homes on the island, will have their own plot of land, and programs would be in place to establish proper housing.   While this may appear to be a welfare system, it actually is a system to set standards for future housing on Gonave.   Given that individual will claim land, that they did not buy, bargaining would take place where BLM would build the homes, and designate a plot, and deed the property over to the individual. BLM would be very important in regulating the natural resources on the island, such as oil, natural gas, minerals, and native vegetation.   In addition t

Flag of Gonave?

Image
I created the image below.  I will explain why I choose the colors I choose. So three basic color were chosen to represent the future island nation of Gonave, which are yellow, sky blue, and green. I did research on flags, and why colors should be chosen, what colors shouldn't be put on a flag, the meaning of colors, how not to over complicate a flag, and make sure that a made can easily be remember by school age kids. So here it is, and I will explain the colors. First off, the green portion of the flag represents the green lush vegetation of the island.  It also means a land rich with fertile soil which provides the energy of it's people. The blue portion represents the bright skys over the island of Gonave.  The color is a sky blue, which shows a cloudless day, one with no storms, but of a clear day.  It also means that the sky is the limit.  Finally yellow represents the sun.  The sun is shining on a lush green nation on a cloudless day, and show a bright fu

Trash on Gonave

Image
A critical issue facing Gonave is trash.  This is something that plagues all of Haiti, and it causes severe health issues. The best way to handle this issue for Gonave is to incinerate the trash on the island.  If you were to put a commercial trash incinerator on the western portion of Gonave, you blow the smoke away from any population of people. The idea of building an incinerator or a waste to energy incinerator has some strong merits.  The trash issue on Gonave is a secondary one when you look at access to clean water, good shelter, and food.  While it may be a secondary one, it is one that Gonave must conquer.

Developing farms on Gonave

Image
While the video I am posting is about Food Plots, which are basically areas where you plant food stuffs for wild animals.  So if you want to provide food for deers, then you design a food plot that has a specific type of grass which the animal will choose over what is found in nature.  This is usually for hunting purposes.  My idea is to do something similar due to the vegetation on Gonave.  To create less of a footprint, very few trees would have to be destroyed to have a farm or food lot.  The trees will provide shade, and will help block some sun that could damage the crops.  The trees also hold the soil down, and prevents erosion.  Overall it is a good plan. These farms can grow many different types of food, especially beans and corn.  Attached is a YouTube video that shows how 4-wheerlers and grading tools can plow up the land, which will provide an area for planting. This alternative is cheap, fast, and least invasive to nature.  It is something that several dozen farmer

Go Gonave!

So by now the plight of Gonave is my Passion Project.  It is something that I feel is very important as Gonave can be the testing ground for new black owned businesses, and for a black nation to gain power and wealth by being so close to the world's largest economy, America. So for me this is a project where the locals must have transparency when they elect leaders.  Those leaders must shy well away from corruption, and believe in true equality of all.  For when you see what Gonave will be, we can all say Go Gonave! Now while there are still very few that have heard of Gonave, I hope that in the future many will know one thing.  This is a tiny land where the people have will, determination, love, and spirit.  None of those things can be broken, and you can help by bringing more people to the sight, have then join, have them give their opinion. Go Gonvae!

How to solve mobility issues on Gonave?

*NOTE I do not own this video, if the owner of the video wants me to remove this video I will. Gonave has many issues so the last thing that makes sense is putting in a multi-million dollar train system right?  Wrong!  While this would be something that the island of Gonave should consider, it will be something well into the future.  So while this is a dream, let me explain my thoughts behind this. Purpose If Gonave becomes its own independent nation; it will need to understand how to move people from place to place.  Given the lay of the terrain on Gonave, the lack of roads and other critical infrastructure, building a rail line to connect cities on the island wouldn't be a bad idea.  Also having a national rail system is critical for the new countries success.  The video is of a DMU or Diesel Multiple Unit train that uses diesel as fuel, hence the name, and can be coupled with other DMU's.  This system is near San Diego, California (Oceanside & Escondido) and i

Creation of ID cards

Image
ID cards This is a sample ID card I found online from the United Kingdom,  This card is probably for a foreign student who is in England.  I will show additional cards from England that will show the front and back of the cards for actual citizens of the United Kingdom. Purpose The purpose of the ID cards are simple.  For one it will allow Gonave to have valid proof of who actually resides on the island, and their age.  It also provides proof to the United Nations that citizens on the island can easily be identified for voting purposes, and legal rights.  This will be very critical if the citizens of Gonave vote to succeed from Haiti. Card Design   Picture above are the back and front of a British ID card.  Now these are smart cards as you can see the chip in the top photo.  On the back are registration numbers, which are unique to that specific person.  Now while this is a sample card I found online, it what an actual card could look like for Gonave.   The front

Building a Reservoir on Gonave

Image
Intro of a Reservoir The island of Gonave, like much of Haiti has frequent rain, most of which goes directly into the soil and then into the water table.  In previous post I mentioned using water harvesting methods to get this water, as opposed to drilling wells. Proposal Long term solutions such as building an artificial lake are very important to consider.  These lakes usually will add to the promise of water.  Having that dependable source that can easily be transported around Gonave, will allow for future economic growth. Looking at the annual rainfall on the island, map of Gonave, you will see that the island had many areas where a reservoir would work.  Size To start off, I think Gonave could survive from a 50 - 70 acre lake with a dept of 20 feet.  While this sounds very massive, it really isn't when you consider the size of lakes and how deep they can actually go.  While this project will take years to complete, the pay off in the end is priceless.  Picture

Beer & Food Carts...An Entrepreneur's Dream

Image
The first initial businesses will be beer and food carts.  Many of the local residents will not be able to afford store fronts, and in fact the lack of store fronts in Gonave, Haiti prevent businesses. By having beverage and food cart businesses in Gonave, you will serve the local public and tourist to the local cuisine.  This not only builds culture in Gonave, but it also opens the door for new opportunities in Gonave. Below are some examples of food carts and how they could dot the urban landscape in Gonave. These mobile units are in many places around the world, and some which have a more fixed location, have become famous in places like Portland, OR.  In Portland, many of these food carts form Pods, that have distinctive names.  The idea of having these food carts that can move, if need be, from Pod to Pod, or place to place, can make it very attractive for the new entrepreneur. Next to these food carts, could be street food vendors.  While the concept is the same
